Day AND Night Explanation

For reading we have been learning about space and our solar system.  We learnt about why we have day and night.  Here is my DLO (digital learning object) about why I think we have day and night.

Thursday 3 November 2016

For the past few weeks we have been practising using descriptive language in our writing. We have been trying  to 'paint pictures with words.' We all got to invent our own taniwha. We all drew our own taniwha and then we had to write about it and describe what it looks like, what we do with our taniwha and what our taniwha is like. Then we read our work to a buddy and they had a go at drawing our taniwha.

Create and Describe Your Own Creature
(Nogard)

WALT: be descriptive in our writing.

Look at the description of a Nogard.  Now Create and describe your own creature that you will then be able to read to a buddy so that they can draw it.  Your description must be as detailed and clear as possible so that when you share it with others they will be able to visualise and draw you creature. Use lots of adjectives (describing words - big, small, round, green).

You must .....

  • Have a name for your creature
  • Start from the big things and work your way to the smaller things
  • Describe the shapes
  • Describe its neck, body, tail, wings etc.
  • What does its head look like?Think about its eyes, nose, eyebrows, mouth, teeth
  • Describe its legs/flippers/fins etc.
  • What colours is it?
  • Any extra details on the body like scales, spikes etc.
  • Keep it simple and clear!
  • Use correct punctuation and spelling.
  • Check that your sentences make sense.

Remember that a good writer ‘paints’ pictures in their reader’s head with words.   This is what good descriptive writing does.

Bendy Bob

Have you ever seen a Taniwha? I have, I’ll tell you about my Taniwha.

Last night I went down to my creek to see my friend Taniwha called Bendy Bob.

Bendy Bob looks like a shark who is  mainly blue with sharp ma teeth as sharp as razor sharp

claws and he eats fish.  Bendy Bob has a pattern on him which is on his fins. His pattern is

like sharp teeth but not

too sharp and  the colours of his pattern is whero and  kikorangi.

Bendy Bob has no scales and he has a long bendy tail with a sharp end.

Bendy Bob guards the underwater jewels.  These jewels are in a castle that has sunk and that

is underwater. Inside the castle there is a curved golden wall and on the outside the castle is

camouflaged. It is camouflaged with seaweed so that no-one comes and steals the jewels.

Bendy Bob can live underwater but he can survive on land too. Bendy Bob takes

me underwater to look at all the jewels that he has found and is keeping safe.  Bendy Bob has

3 sharp spikes that make him koutata. Bendy Bob lives deep down in the creek. Sometimes he takes me to the bottom of the creek and we stay there overnight. Sometimes Bendy Bob  takes me to the beach and I ride big waves in the ocean and catch fish. When someone is disrespecting me and saying that Bendy Bob is fake I click
my fingers then Bendy Bob comes then that person runs away. Sometimes Bendy Bob and I

woosh through the water and sing a little waiata.

Peer Evaluation   Name of Peer: Phoebe

What I think you did well:    she made the patterns correctly and the three fins that make him streamlines,

What I think you could improve on:  making the body  a bit straiter and don’t make the streamline fins too long other wise it will make it slower.

Self Evaluation

What I think I did well:  explaining my Taniwha of what it looks like and what its personality is

What I could improve on: putting more information and not making huge spaces.

Korban's Mihi.

I made my Mihi on screencastify. To make my Mihi next time I could make it better by putting more photos and my pets and cousins. My Mihi lets people know who I am and were I come from.  We were learning to pronounce the Maori words properly. We were learning to introduce ourselves in Te Reo Maori.
