Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper

IMG_1185.JPG

For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’  This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.

For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.

The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.

When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.

Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.

When we are writing we need to think about…

1)What do I want my reader to see? 2) What do I want my reader to hear? 3) What do I want my reader to smell? Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write

Do your writing here

The Beekeeper

Looks like a gentle beekeeper being gentle with a bee hive.

Looks like a bunch of bees buzzing around everywhere.

Sounds like a bunch of flies trying to go straight through the window.

It smells almost like a honey jar that had just been finished.

Maui Legends

As part of Matariki we re-read the legends of Maui. We then retold a legend and created artwork. Below is my work.

Rendered Image

Thousands of years ago there was a Māori legend about Maui's fish. That’s what we will be telling you about today. Once Maui wanted to go fishing with his brothers but his brothers wouldn't let him. They were saying stuff like your too small and you can’t even catch a little trout. Maui was annoyed so he made a decision to hide in his brother’s boat before they set out to sea. When they set out to sea, Maui jumped out of the boat and started to fish with his brothers in surprise.

Maui caught something very big, bigger than you could imagine. Maui kept trying to reel it in, he finally brought it up. Yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay they all yelled. They had fished up the North Island which is actually a massive fish. Then they saw a massive storm coming. They jumped over so many waves until a tsunami came and smashed the boat. Eventually the boat became the South Island.

Persuasive writing - why we should have pets.

We have been having a go at writing a piece of persuasive writing. Here is my piece of writing about why we should have pets.
Title
A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’

Pets Are A Good Idea

Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic.  What you believe or want to argue.
Have you ever been smooched by a cat well I have and it is FLUFFY!!!

Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic.  Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.

Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples

Firstly, pets can keep you company when you are sad or annoyed. With my dog when i’m sad he keeps me company. Whenever I sleep in my brothers bed the cat sleeps with me which makes me good.

Secondly, most pets are really fluffy. I like to pat my pets but my chickens won’t let me. My dog is my fluffiest animal I have. There are a lot of fluffy animals around the world.

Thirdly, pets can do very funny things. For example when one of my friends came over he told my dog to sit but he rolled over and no one taught him how to roll over.

Finally, pets are really fun to play with. with my pets only 2 out of 7 like to play especially my dog. When I’m sad my dog cheers me up so does my cat sort of.

Concluding statement
Summing it up.  A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.

In conclusion, I think it’s a great idea to have a pet. Pets are a great thing in life.  pets are fun to play with, pets can do funny things, most pets are really fluffy and pets can keep you company.

Persuasive Writing - Why We Should Fix Our Field.

We have been having a go at writing a piece of persuasive writing. Here is my piece of writing about why we should fix our field.

Title
A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’

I Think we should fix our field.

Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic.  What you believe or want to argue.
I strongly think we should fix our field. We need to fix the field because it was to muddy and wet so we can’t do our school events and school games.

Karoro school needs it’s field fixed

Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic.  Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.

Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples

Firstly,  I think we should fix our field at first because I saw a lot of people slipping over and getting all muddy.

Secondly, it to fix the field because  it was used for our sports and events like the gala, hangi, sports,  sports training, cross country practise, to play with P.E gear, equipment and game time.

Thirdly, the field needs to be fixed. It needs to be fixed because the teachers might not have any time to get the kids balls that went over the fence so the kids might get Pouri and Riri. Also sometimes when a ball goes over the fence it takes a long time to get it back.

Finally, I strongly believe we don’t want people to get injured by falling over on the concrete and getting hit in the face by a ball.

Concluding statement
Summing it up.  A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.

In conclusion we need to fix our field because we need it to do sport and events and for lots of other reasons gala, hangi and matariki are all other think we need the field for. Also we need the field because many people don’t want to get muddy. Also another reason is that many children won’t want there ball to go over the fence because it will take long to get it back and if we had a field when the ball was over the fence we could still be playing with it. Lastly, my last reason is that people don’t want to trip over on concrete and get badly hurt. It is a good plan to have fields at school. I enjoy school fields because they are fun.
